Speculation & certainty — はず, よう, らしい, そう, かもしれない
接続：感情形容詞の語幹 ＋ がる（ほしい→ほしがる、こわい→こわがる）
(Third person) shows…, appears to be… — describes objectively another person's emotions through external expressions.
注意 / Note：Japanese does not speak directly of other people's feelings: ×彼はほしいです → ○彼はほしがっています. Change object が→を: おもちゃをほしがる.
比較 / Compare：（私は）ほしいです／（彼は）ほしがっています — first person is different from third person.
よく出る形 / Common form：（第三者）は Nを ほしがっている／こわがっている。
子どもが新しいおもちゃをほしがっている。
The baby wants a new toy.
妹は犬をこわがります。
My sister is afraid of dogs.
彼は合格して、とてもうれしがっていた。
He passed so he seemed very happy.
