Japanese grammar terminology and structures

Grammar pattern names, thematic classification and linguistic terminology are shared knowledge in the field and are owned by no one. What is copyrighted is how we explain them and the examples we write.

Our rules for external content

  • We do NOT republish copyrighted articles in full, including translations.
  • For news, we use only the headline, a short excerpt, and always link back to the original.
  • Where we need full Japanese text, we use sources that permit reuse: material published under 政府標準利用規約 (compatible with CC BY 4.0), CC BY-SA content, or works out of copyright.
  • Every external source is credited by name, link and licence on the page where it is used.
