After so much…, finally（bad ending）…. Went through a long, hard process and it ended badly.
注意 / Note：The outcome is almost always bad. If the outcome is good, use 〜た末(に).
比較 / Compare：〜たあげく（BAD outcome）↔ 〜た末に（possible GOOD outcome） — the wrong pair is often chosen.
よく出る形 / Common form：動た形／名の＋あげく(に)。Or go with さんざん・長時間.
長時間議論したあげく、結論は出なかった。
Debating for so long, in the end, no conclusion was reached.
