It's better... than.... Compare two bad things: the one in the front is worse, so choose the latter.
注意 / Note：The latter usually has 〜ほうがましだ／〜ほうがいい. Expresses strong feelings of hatred.
比較 / Compare：〜くらいなら（the former is worse → choose the latter）; often go with 〜ほうがましだ／〜ほうがいい.
よく出る形 / Common form：動辞書形＋くらいなら＋（〜ほうがましだ）.
途中でやめるくらいなら、初めからやらないほうがましだ。
It's better not to start from the beginning than to give up halfway.
あんな人に頭を下げるくらいなら、死んだほうがいい。
It is better to die than to bow to such a person.
嫌な仕事を無理に続けるくらいなら、辞めたほうがいい。
It's better to take a break than to continue doing a job you're bored with.
