台湾高速鉄道に新幹線の新型車両　高雄港に到着

台湾の高速鉄道に入る新型車両「N700ST」の1編成へんせい目が、8月15日の未明みめい、台湾南部の高雄港かおしゅんこうに到着とうちゃくしました。同じ日、港では車両の到着を祝う式典しきてんが開かれました。客を乗せて走り始めるのは、2027年7月1日の予定です。

In the early hours of 15 August, the first set of the new "N700ST" trains for Taiwan's high-speed railway arrived at Kaohsiung Port in southern Taiwan. A ceremony marking the arrival was held at the port the same day. Passenger service is scheduled to begin on 1 July 2027.

この車両は、日本の東海道新幹線で走っているN700Sをもとに、台湾に合わせて造られました。台湾高鉄たいわんこうてつと日立ひたち・東芝とうしばの企業きぎょう連合れんごうが2023年5月に契約けいやくを結び、12編成、あわせて144両を造ることになっています。契約の金額きんがくはおよそ1240億円です。

The train is based on the N700S running on Japan's Tokaido Shinkansen, adapted to Taiwanese requirements. Taiwan High Speed Rail and a consortium of Hitachi and Toshiba signed a contract in May 2023 for 12 sets, 144 cars in total. The contract is worth around 124 billion yen.

1編成目は、7月30日に山口県にある日立製作所の笠戸かさど工場こうじょうから出ました。その後、近くの港で貨物船かもつせんに積み込まれ、数千キロの海を渡って輸送ゆそうされました。台湾高鉄が日本から新しい車両を受け取るうけとるのは、22年ぶりです。

The first set left Hitachi's Kasado plant in Yamaguchi Prefecture on 30 July. It was then loaded onto a cargo ship at a nearby port and carried several thousand kilometres across the sea. It is the first time in 22 years that Taiwan High Speed Rail has taken delivery of new cars from Japan.

到着した編成には「TS01」という番号が付いています。これから、止まった状態での検査けんさと、実際じっさいに線路を走らせる試験しけんを行います。そのあと、台湾の鉄道局が営業に使ってよいかどうかを審査しんさすることになります。

The set that arrived carries the number "TS01". Static inspections and running tests on the track will now be carried out. Taiwan's railway bureau will then assess whether it may be used in commercial service.

12編成は一度に届くとどくのではなく、少しずつ台湾に運ばれます。2編成目は今年11月、3編成目は2027年1月に届く予定よていで、この3編成が2027年7月から客を乗せます。最後の12編成目が走り出すのは、2028年9月の見込みみこみです。

The 12 sets will not arrive all at once but will be delivered gradually. The second is due this November and the third in January 2027, and these three will carry passengers from July 2027. The twelfth and last set is expected to enter service in September 2028.

台湾高鉄は2007年に開業かいぎょうし、これまで日本の700系をもとにした「700T」という車両を使ってきました。しかし、この車両は使い始めてから20年近くたち、日本ではもとの700系が引退いんたいしています。部品ぶひんの手配などを考えると、新しい車両への切り替えきりかえが必要でした。

Taiwan High Speed Rail opened in 2007 and has until now used the "700T", built on Japan's 700 series. Those cars are approaching 20 years of service, and in Japan the original 700 series has been retired. Given the difficulty of sourcing parts, switching to new trains had become necessary.

新型車両では、全体を軽くして電気の使う量を減らす工夫くふうがされています。車内には色のついた案内あんない画面や、充電じゅうでんできる席、二段の荷物置き場が用意よういされました。授乳室じゅにゅうしつも広くなり、車いす用の席は6席に増えました。

The new train has been designed to be lighter overall and use less electricity. Inside there are colour information displays, seats with charging points and two-tier luggage racks. The nursing room is larger, and wheelchair spaces have been increased to six.

台湾高鉄は開業のあと、多額たがくの借金しゃっきんで経営けいえいが苦しくなった時期がありました。その後、立て直しに成功し、今では島の南北を結ぶ大動脈だいどうみゃくと呼ばれています。2027年には開業から20年になり、会社は駅やサービスの改善も含めた新しい計画を進めています。

After opening, Taiwan High Speed Rail went through a period of financial difficulty caused by heavy debt. It later restructured successfully and is now called the artery linking the island's north and south. The line turns 20 in 2027, and the company is pursuing a new plan covering upgrades to stations and services.
