Sayaka Kuwabara's new essay series: Organizing life by putting feelings into words

Author Sayaka Kuwabara worked as a customer service representative at "Hokuo, Kurashi no Doguten" for six years. After leaving the company, she moved to Norway, and currently lives in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture with her Swedish husband, 4-year-old daughter, and 2-year-old son. A new essay series describing her daily life in Matsumoto has now begun.

The theme this time is "putting one's feelings into words." Since childhood, Ms. Kuwabara was not very good at talking, and her sister, who is two years older, often spoke on her behalf. Because of this, she felt more comfortable stepping back and observing quietly rather than standing in front to speak.

However, a change came when she met her Swedish husband. Her husband was someone who asked thorough questions whenever he had doubts until he understood the reason. Moreover, in Nordic culture, expressing opinions such as "what do you want to do?" or "what do you think?" is highly valued in schools, families, and everyday conversations. As she experienced Nordic culture, Ms. Kuwabara realized the importance of putting her thoughts into words.

Having learned to face her own feelings, Ms. Kuwabara began pausing to reflect on small discomforts or worries in daily life. Whether feeling that making dinner is no longer enjoyable or that household chore sharing isn't working smoothly, she looks for solutions by creating family rules or making DIY shelves.

Daily life is built upon the accumulation of small events. Ms. Kuwabara expresses that the genuine feeling of building a lifestyle in her own way—by observing and thoughtfully facing her inner emotions—serves as a comforting charm through busy days.
