Tense in text — How to use る/た/ている in a paragraph
用法：臨場感を出す叙述
Tell stories about the past but use る form to create the feeling that is happening before your eyes.
注意 / Note：Often found in essays and novels. In one paragraph, る/た can be mixed; Don't see the る form and think it's present.

In 1945, the war finally ended. People stood silently among the ashes.
そこで彼は決心する。故郷へ帰ろう、と。
Then he decided: he would return to his hometown.
彼はドアを開ける。そこには誰もいなかった。
He opened the door. There was no one there.
