Tense in text — How to use る/た/ている in a paragraph
用法：叙述の時間
In a paragraph, the job is done use 〜た; truth/current state/conclusion uses the form る（〜である）.
注意 / Note：The test often asks for a blank box at the end of the paragraph: if it is the writer's opinion → form る（〜のだ・〜である）; if something happened → 〜た.
比較 / Compare：The matter is finished → 〜た；truth/status quo/conclusion → form る（〜である・〜のだ）.
よく出る形 / Common form：The blank box at the end of the paragraph is usually the statement → 〜である・〜のだ・〜と言える.
原爆が技術を象徴していることを示している。
（current judgment → form る）That shows that the atomic bomb symbolizes technology.
科学者がいなかったなら、あの兵器も生まれなかったにちがいない。
（assumption about the past → 〜た）If there were no scientists, that weapon would not have been born.
この習慣は江戸時代に生まれ、今も続いている。
This custom was born in the Edo period and continues today.
