Frequently asked questions

What does 河川の氾濫 mean?

It is a phenomenon in which river water rises above its banks and flows out. Usually happens when prolonged heavy rain causes too much water to flow into the river.

Why did 22 rivers overflow?

Because the record rain lasted for many hours, 24-hour rainfall in some places exceeded 300–350 mm, exceeding the water capacity of local river and stream systems.

What if 災害救助法 is applied?

When applying the Natural Disaster Relief Law, the government can use state budget to support evacuation places, provide food, temporarily repair houses and support damaged people.
