Quotes & nested questions — と言う, と思う, かどうか, 疑問詞＋か
接続：ふつう形 ＋ かどうか（な形・N は だ を取る）
Yes… or no — insert a Yes/No question into the larger sentence.
注意 / Note：な形容詞 and the noun omit だ: 元気かどうか（×元気だかどうか）. The latter is usually 分からない, 知らない, 調べる, 確かめる.
比較 / Compare：〜かどうか（Yes/No questions）／疑問詞＋か（questions with question words）.
よく出る形 / Common form：ふつう形＋かどうか＋分かりません／知りません／調べます。
彼が来るかどうか分かりません。
I don't know if he will come or not.
この店が今日開いているかどうか調べます。
