Summer vacation, I traveled to a town. That is the birthplace and activity of the writer I loved so much during my student days. My wish to one day see that place with my own eyes has finally come true.
Since he passed away decades ago, the landscape must have completely changed. Still, walking in the beautiful green town — which became the setting of his novel — is still fun. But maybe because since I started working I have hardly read his works anymore, so I don't feel more moved; To be honest, I felt a bit disappointed.
However, everything changed when I entered a souvenir house. There are displayed manuscripts (note 1) and letters written by him (note 2). As I watched, I gradually remembered the content of the novels and poems I had read in the past. In particular, when reading the manuscript of the poem written when his sister passed away, I felt his sadness almost to the point of pain. I realized that handwriting, no matter how much time has passed, still strongly represents who that person was and what he felt.
Having bad handwriting, I tried to use the computer as much as possible. But after that time, I started to think that sometimes, even if the words are bad, if you write with your whole heart, maybe you can still convey something.
