There is a profession called commentator. It is the job of having in-depth knowledge of a field and providing explanations and reviews for everyone to refer to. Today, from political and economic commentators to ramen commentators, commentators in all fields are actively active on television and magazines. However, there is no certification exam to become a commentator like a doctor or teacher. So how did they eventually become commentators?
Most of them do not necessarily have accumulated deep knowledge to comment. Many people say that since they were young, they had knowledge and interest different from ordinary people (note 1) in a field, then while they were passionate about learning, without realizing it, it became their job. Turning the field you like into a profession is very desirable. ①But just having different depth of knowledge does not necessarily make you a commentator. To earn income as commentators, they must be featured in newspapers, magazines, and television — that is, the mass media (note 2) —.
②To be featured by the mass media, they need to have persuasiveness and appeal that makes people admire and want to listen. Furthermore, luck is also needed to have the opportunity to appear in the media.
Perhaps you have to have all three — superior knowledge, persuasion and charm that makes others want to listen, and luck in seizing opportunities — to become a commentator.
(note 1) 人並み外れた: very different from other people. (note 2) マスメディア: means of transmitting information to the masses such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio.
