Distinguishing は and が — new/old information, opposition, implementation
用法:新展開・話の流れが変わるとき
Even though it's been mentioned before, when the incident changes to a new development or becomes news, use が.
注意 / Note:Very often in the topic: the paragraph is using は, when it comes to “ある年、夫が突然…” then change to が because there is a new event.
比較 / Compare:Even if you already know, when there are new/news developments, you use が - a very good point in the question.
よく出る形 / Common form:Sign: ある日・ある年・突然・ついに+名+が.
ある年、夫が突然「旅館を閉じよう」と言い出した。
