On 15 March, a citizens' rally was held in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, to protest the dispatch of US forces in Japan to the Middle East. This came following reports that the Trump administration had deployed Okinawa-stationed military units to the Middle East in connection with US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
集会には約60人の市民が参加し、「在日米軍の出撃に反対」と書かれた横断幕を掲げる姿も見られました。参加者たちは、沖縄が攻撃の拠点とされることに強く反発し、「戦争するな、派兵するな」と抗議の声を出して、派兵に反対しました。
About 60 citizens participated in the rally, holding banners that read "Oppose sorties by US forces in Japan." The participants strongly pushed back against Okinawa becoming a launchpad for attacks, shouting protest slogans such as "No to war! No to dispatching troops!"
派遣が報道された強襲揚陸艦トリポリは、中東へ出撃したとされる艦船です。この船は、沖縄県うるま市にある米海軍施設ホワイトビーチにたびたび停泊していました。
The amphibious assault ship Tripoli, reported to have been dispatched, is a military vessel said to have set out for the Middle East. This ship had frequently berthed at White Beach, a US Navy facility located in Uruma City, Okinawa Prefecture.
うるま市に住む照屋寛之さんは、沖縄も攻撃に加担したと思われる恐れがあると指摘しました。イランから敵国とみなされても仕方がないと語り、相手から報復される強い懸念を示しています。
Hiroyuki Teruya, a resident of Uruma City, pointed out the fear that Okinawa might be viewed as having assisted in the attack. He remarked that it could not be helped if Iran considers them an enemy nation, expressing strong concerns about potential retaliation.
